Most of the time when I finish a game, I want to take a break, but after playing it through once, I want to go back into that world and make different choices.I've often only read physical copies of this kind of fiction, but if everything from Choice of Games is this good, I'll be buying a lot more from them.. I loved it, simple as that.. Upon the writing of this review, i have just finished my first run of the story. I will update this after I complete each other run.If you're looking to buy it you should already know that this is a choose your own adventure story. The interface runs well, a stats and achievement screen are welcomed additions to judge your character's strengths. The writing is great. It feels genuine and relatable. I could feel myself actually caring for characters and the results my actions had.Now the story. I have to break it down into two parts. A spoiler free assessment of the entire story before the ending, and then a spoiler filled section about the ending (or at least the one i got). The story: Since this was my first playthrough, I don't know how well the story handles branching paths. But, for a story in this format, it's the first story that’s the most important. I felt although every struggle the werewolves went through was real, reasonable. There never was a completely unexpected jump to the point where it felt unnatural or Ex Machina. As the story progresses, you're torn with a limited amount of time to spend between the core group of characters that make up your allies. Your relationships with these people can influence how they respond to you and what they can do for you during the storyNow, there are romantic interests [RI] for you to explore during the story. You can kind of set-up the romantic interest early on in the story. Now, I have seen cringey, awful romance scenes in games, but this is a book and the level of emotions I felt for my RI was beyond any video game romance attempted and would put Bioware’s RPG's to shame. The story reached a point where i only cared about my RI in a situation and would damn everything else if that's what it took. Now if you reached this point of the review and what i said is enough to satisfy you then by all means consider purchasing the story. It's worth your time and is enjoyable. But the real reason I’m writing this review is to express my feelings about the ending. Don't read past this point unless you already purchased the game or don't care about spoilers.----------------------------SPOILERS BELOW THIS LINE------------------------------------------------------------------I enjoyed my 4 hours I spent reading the story. I enjoyed the choices, the characters, the times where plans failed and I got punished for them. I loved the story i developed between my RI and connected to that on such a strong level. The only way i can express my attitude with the ending is that ruined everything i had built up, planned for, expected, clues that i read into and pick-up on.So, the final chapter comes along. Opens with my RI having our moment where we're happy to be alive. Me as a reader, for the first time in the story felt like I actual won something here. Everything was worth it for this one moment. I could be content with so many other endings after this moment, but I truly felt relief here. The conversation leads to expectations of the end of fighting and a time for talking and diplomacy. Now my character has been a leader, academic, and diplomat the entire story. I nearly died about 3 times during this story yet lived due to precautions I had made. So, I'm ready to shine here, exactly what my character is best at.I get separated from the RI and brought to a room with the werewolf sage who had taken me on as his apprentice and promoted the ways of peace. His only words to me are "don't worry, be yourself". Now I’m being interrogated by a power higher than the BBEG from the story. They talk and talk about how they are ready to put an end to the whole situation that started the story. But they want to interrogate me about my doings during this revolution-like attack they faced. I was a pacifies this story making sure to not kill anyone and at the end of this interrogation. I either was the wrong character or said the wrong things, equally, both are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ways to treat the player after this. My character apparently lacked a certain "Moxie" and was sent to be killed as a loose end. I'm sorry what? Hold on, apparently the human person who was interrogating me earlier was a werewolf? This person we've never met before is actually a werewolf trying to start a larger scale war with werewolves infiltrating other parts of the military? And because my character was didn't want any part of that, something the ENTIRE story was trying to fight: "If we kill needlessly we'll only become the like the monsters we are expected to be", "I don't want to fall into my primal instincts to kill and kill”, “We need to side on peace and diplomacy". The whole time during the story, I'm promoting peace so once werewolves would be brought into the attention of the world, we wouldn't be scrutinized as killers or monsters. But to achieve so much diplomacy and prevent the deaths of so many humans and werewolves. I was rewarded with a ♥♥♥♥ YOU of an ending. I can handle an ending where the protagonist loses. This was just plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. There was no room for planning what this new character was and I was misled by 2 characters into my decisions in that conversation. Now the sage pisses me off because everything he taught me in the story failed me worse than anything else I did during the story. Now i didn't die due to the BBEG sparing my life but that was the end of the story. No closure if my RI is okay/even alive at this point. I was enjoying myself in this story so much and that's a testament to my feelings about this ending. I can only get so mad because I got so invested and so immersed into this world, that this final chapter ripped me out of it and killed every feeling I had.--------------------------------------End of Spoilers-------------------------------------------------The story was amazing and I hope I muster up the want to read through a second time and see just how different this game can be.. Having played this game I must say that I fully enjoyed this. The choices you make seem to have a great impact on the story. I can't wait for a part 2.. I'm not even sure if I should review this game , becauseI have thrown the stat-system completely out of the window by editing my save file and setting every skillto the maximum. After that I actually enjoyed the book quite a bit. However because of that my experience with the bookwould be pretty different compared to a normal playthrough so I'm going to try to give informationinstead of critique. On the other hand however, even while reading thestory like this, the amount of skill choices was prettyhigh, and I'm sure if I had read this book normallyI really wouldn't have enjoyed it.The stat-system sometimes practically oozes out of the choices, which tend to be simply put:"Do you want to use skill A,B,C or D?". This isn't the first time I came across something likethis in a "Choice of Game", which lead to me startingto cheat in this kind game. However I still don't quite get why these kind of systemsexist in the first place. All they do is limit the choices from the get-go and letyou play only one way while the others lead to certaindeath. So yeah the game is stat-heavy, is my point.Another thing is that this is the first book in a series, which I only realised after I was standing at the end rightin front of one big♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ing cliffhanger. It would be nice if this was written in the descriptionbeforehand. And the last thing: Because this is a book in a series ,there is a savefunctionat the end of the game. However you need to give them your e-mail-adress to save and then your save gets uploaded.I don't want to do either of those, and it's not like thosesaves are in some kind of unreachable location, that you couldn't just access them directly in future installments.Or how about simply making a folder in thedocuments-directory, you know how like almost every game does it.. I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to the second one. I romanced Bly, and was happy with my romance with her. I also play these games as if they were me, and so my choices reflect that. I noly play them once as well so my story cant truly be "mine". Call it a waste, however it becomes my "true" story. It had good pacing, and development, and I absolutely enjoyed the rage. Though I think more character development between the MC themswelves (And with rage as well) and the MC and RO would make the second book even more great. I'm glad you stayed away from all stats determine every action. I hate those ones. My opinion is a 8/10 overall. This is because its not the best character development or romance but I enjoyed my time. Looking forward to part 2! (Oh, I saw some Alpha moments that may be hinting at some Alpha abilities later on or something like that, and I 100% root for that).. I loved it, simple as that.. This game should've got the "animated" treatmentIn Werewolves: Haven Rising, you're a werewolf that is thrown into a strife story going on between humans and werewolves. Essentially, throughout the story, you must come to terms with leadership, morality, trust, and if you choose, love. This is a very basic description but seeing as how this is a text based game, I have to be vague in order to prevent accidental spoilers. This is a choose your own adventure book with several choices and plot points being altered based on your stats. The stat screen displays several bits of information ranging from name to personal affinity towards certain characters. I love these types stories because it can boast quite a bit of replay value. It's also important to note that I really liked this story. I don't want to oversell it but i played two immediate games back-to-back, not just because of story enjoyment but to see if there was a legitimate change when different choices were made. Any game that causes me to develop feelings or bonds with its characters and world is a win for me. I'll definitely keep a close eye on this company....but don't expect me to give you $500 for all of your produced content...HA HA HA HA...no.The only real negative is the lack of anything "flashy". This a book. Period. No music, no marshmellows, no kidding. This doesn't bother me but it may bother some.Is it worth $6 (I paid $4)? Yeah, totally. Unless you don't like the choose your adventure style or if you don't like reading books on Steam, which is perfectly fine, then add this game to your library, fight the good fight and join the revolution!. I loved it, simple as that.
